Job Description
Up front project functional design specification documentation may be required together with site reports and system design architectures. Our clients use SCADA software combined with various PLC’s, therefore a good understanding in PLC’s and general automation software in a plant environment is key.
Opensofts’ projects concentrate largely on software automation systems such as SCADA and plant historian and reporting solutions. Our projects are taking advantage of being built of virtualised platforms, whilst knowledge of virtualisation is not required an understanding of this technology would be useful.
However, to implement these projects PLC changes are often required as is the development of additional PLC software code and installation of hardware.
Providing a key role within the company the successful person will have the opportunity to progress expanding their existing software knowledge in delivering Opensofts’ projects and support services.
Responsibilities
- Development of SCADA applications, scripting and testing
- Develop SCADA interfaces to third party applications and databases
- To develop and fully test communications interfaces to PLC’s
- Develop documentation including functional design specifications
- Carry out and develop reports for Site Audits
- Site visits to our clients sites for systems commissioning and support tasks
- To undertake support tasks at end user sites

Job Description
Opensoft Systems are keen to speak with individuals who are interested in pursuing a rewarding career within an engineering and technical sales support capacity. This is a senior level position, and the successful candidate will be working alongside the Managing Director whilst working closely with our Sales & Marketing, and Engineering Teams.
We are looking to speak with candidates who have an engineering background and/ or technical consultancy experience.
Our clients use SCADA software combined with various PLC’s, therefore a high level of understanding in PLC’s and general automation software in a plant environment is key for this role.
As the Engineering Consultant for the business, you will be creating value for our customers – working closely with existing customers and potential new customers to understand their requirements. You will engage with all stakeholders proactively and be responsible for matching solutions with customer needs.
You will report directly into our Managing Director.
Responsibilities
- The complete project sales cycle management – from requirement gathering, scoping visits and site audits, through to design specification, BOM and system architecture.
- The role will involve significant direct customer contact and direct support to the sales team – it will include being able to interpret customer expectations whilst ensuring both the sales and engineering team understand the requirements.
- Working closely with our customers to fully understand their challenges and needs so you can offer expert, practical advice to solve problems.
- Working with existing, and new, suppliers to fully understand their available Software & Hardware Solutions and match them with our customers’ needs.
- Upon successfully identifying the right service solution for our customers, and full implementation of it, you will be responsible for supporting the Operations & Logistics Coordinator, and Engineering Team Administrators to complete costs estimates.
- Quality check proposals, making recommendations and relaying information to sales and engineering team.
- Working closely with sales & marketing, to support them with producing appropriate marketing material for identified solutions.
- Collaborate with sales executives and account managers to identify and handover leads for other products and services.
- Ensuring quality management during the requirement gathering stage including the uploading of backups, system architecture, electrical & wiring diagrams, password access amongst any other documentation required to be able to provide a comprehensive proposal to our customers.
- Provision of software & hardware specification – BOM to the engineering team administration to enable them to obtain quotations.
- Understanding layouts and technical drawings and will be able to interpret these.
- Supporting our sales and marketing team with technical queries when requested.
- Managing your own expenses (the Company will provide a credit card if required).
- In addition to the duties listed, the jobholder is required to perform other duties assigned by the Managing Director.
Key Skills & Experience
- An understanding of OSS customer base and market trends.
- Experience working in either a manufacturing or maintenance environment with strong technical knowledge.
- Experience in Siemens S7 300 – 400 PLC, using Simatic Manager Software and; S7-1200 PLC using TIA Portal Software; WinCC Flexible HMI code development and commissioning; Experience in Communication networks establishment DH+, MPI, Profibus, Ethernet, OPC Servers; Experience in any of the SCADA systems WinCC 6.2, 7.0, 7.2, InTouch, iFix, Cimplicity SCADA development and commissioning. Basic understanding of VB Scripting necessary to troubleshoot SCADA scripts; Experience in any other automation platforms SLC series of Rockwell PLCs and RSView32 SCADA, Mitsubishi Q Series, GE 90, 30 RXSi etc.
- Strictly must have experience across PLC/HMI/SCADA development and commissioning.
- You will be provided training on any of the above where required.

- The ability to deliver our Drives courses and PLC Fundamentals Course and introduction to digital electronics. Full training will be provided.
- Continuous improvement and development of training course material.
- Uploading all documentation, technical information, PLC backups and VMs onto company system.
- Liaising with Customers on their training requirements and validating training material.
- Facilitating short courses (3-5 Days) at Opensoft Systems Office and on Customers sites (various locations across the UK).

To provide data cleansing & administrative support to our sales office. You will be working on our company sales database cleansing and purging data in addition to calling organisations and ascertaining correct contacts for specific departments and adding these to the database. You will also be providing support to our marketing function by running mailshots from the sales database.
