About Opensoft Systems

Opensoft Systems delivers bespoke automation and control solutions to industrial clients
across the UK. We specialise in plant-wide Manufacturing Information Systems, working with
PLC, SCADA & third-party integration systems from world leading providers.

Our strength lies in the depth of experience within our team. Whether we are enhancing existing
systems or designing new ones from the ground up, we work closely with our clients to deliver
practical, reliable solutions.

We offer a stable, well-organised working environment where people are encouraged to
succeed. You’ll be supported by experienced colleagues, given the space to develop your
expertise, and trusted to shape your own area of the business. Clear communication, teamwork
and professional development are central to how we work, making Opensoft a great place to
grow your career while working with respected global brands.

About the role

This is a senior, business-critical role responsible for driving new business growth across the UK
and Ireland, with a primary focus on organisations operating PLC, SCADA and HMI-based
automation systems.

You will take full ownership of the front end of the sales lifecycle — from initial outreach and
lead generation, through technical discovery and site audit selling, to solution definition
and closing. The role is designed to ensure that business development activity is led by a
dedicated commercial and technical specialist, enabling the CEO to focus on the strategic
direction of the company rather than day-to-day sales activity.

The position is remote, with travel to customer sites as required.

About you

You’ll be a commercially driven automation professional who is equally comfortable opening
doors, qualifying opportunities, and holding technically detailed conversations with engineers
and decision-makers.

You’ll bring:

• Proven experience in technical sales or business development within the manufacturing or
industrial automation sector.
• Strong working knowledge of PLC, SCADA and HMI technologies.
• Confidence engaging with customers as conversations move from commercial to technical.
• A results-driven mindset, with the motivation to develop new opportunities and close
business where the opportunity allows.
• Excellent communication and listening skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all levels
— from plant engineers to senior management and directors.
• A self-motivated, conscientious and highly organised approach, comfortable working
independently with clear objectives.

The ideal candidate will have experience selling automation software, systems integration
services, consultancy, training, support contracts and/or project-based solutions into
manufacturing environments.

Key responsibilities

Business development & lead generation
• Identify and target organisations with existing PLC and SCADA systems deployed onsite
(approximately 90% focus of the role).
• Use the company sales database alongside your own market knowledge to source, qualify and
develop new opportunities.
• Conduct initial outreach, prospecting and needs analysis to build a strong and sustainable
sales pipeline.

Technical sales & solution development
• Confidently lead customer conversations as they progress into technical detail.
• Undertake site audits and technical discovery, understanding automation architectures,
operational challenges and business drivers.
• Identify opportunities to improve product quality, manufacturing efficiency, data
visibility and system reliability.
• Develop and present technically sound, commercially compelling solutions aligned to
customer objectives.

Sales & commercial ownership
• Sell across a wide portfolio including:
• Automation and industrial software solutions
• Training services
• Support and maintenance contracts
• Consultancy services
• Project and system delivery work
• Clearly communicate the business-critical value of proposed solutions.
• Progress opportunities through the full sales cycle and close business where
appropriate.

Stakeholder engagement
• Build trusted relationships with plant engineers, maintenance teams, operations managers,
group managers and senior leadership.
• Demonstrate strong listening skills to uncover both technical and commercial drivers.
• Position Opensoft Systems as a long-term automation partner rather than a transactional
supplier.

Background & experience
• Previous experience in a technical sales or business development role within
manufacturing, industrial automation or control systems.
• Ideally experience selling systems integration services or automation products and
services.
• Strong understanding of PLC, SCADA and HMI platforms and how they are applied in industrial
environments.
• A consultative, solutions-led sales approach with a clear focus on results and customer value.
If you are not currently in a Business Development or Technical Sales role, this opportunity may
also suit individuals with backgrounds such as: Automation Engineer, Controls Engineer,
Systems Integrator, Technical Consultant, or similar roles who have moved into, or are looking
to move into, a commercially focused position.

Additional

• This is a business-critical role, directly supporting the company’s growth strategy and longterm success.
• The role involves travel across the UK & Ireland as required.
• Candidates must be fluent in English and eligible to work in the UK.
